Welcome to the Lair! For those who are just discovering the place, welcome! My name is Panther and I've been writing Jack/Daniel stories for quite a while so you will probably see them scattered around here and there. I decided it was time all the stories had a place to call home so they can keep each other company.
Feel free to lay claim to any of the available beanbags, settle in, and get cozy. Coffeemaker's on the counter, cups are in the cupboard.

Hi guys! I know not all of you are on Twitter (which makes you very smart people!) or FB and you might not be seeing any of my updates so I decided to leave one here.
The writing continues! I'm about 3/4 of the way through novel #4. Novels 1 and 2 have made it through the initial round with two different publishers and are being considered for contract. Novel 3 is sitting in a corner waiting for a rewrite because I don't like the way it turned out. One of the characters is way too whiney and you know how I feel about whiners! All 50,000 words are about to get tossed in the bin but that's the way it goes with writing.
I'll let you know how things turn out!

Happy January and welcome to another year. I hope it brings you happiness, the love of good friends and the wisdom to realize when you have them.
The final chapter of Former Self is on the Slash Series page and thus we wave good-bye to the latest saga of Daniel and Jack...at least until I think of another "what if..." that begs for an answer. I loved writing this series and getting to explore a side of both the boys that's never been seen before. I hope you enjoyed reading it. New stories are in the works, though admittedly not SG related. I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, feel free to read back over old stuff and relive the adventure.
A heartfelt THANK YOU to all who wander this site. I write these stories for you as much as for myself and it's a priviledge to provide the bits of humor and romance that offer a distraction from RL. Now and then we all need a happy ending where the boy gets the boy and the good guys win, right?

Another apocalypse as come and gone. I hope you did something fun to celebrate. Personally, I think the next time we plan for the world to end it needs to be further away from Christmas. People are crazy enough around the holidays without worrying about doomsday. It was a bit much, especially in North America. This continent is too nuts to deal very well with that sort of stress. We go all to pieces. So everybody take a deep breath, let it out, and just calm the hell down.
Merry Christmas and happy Kwanzaa everybody...even the crazy ones. For those in Canada, toss a happy Boxing Day in there, too. There is a new chapter of Former Self available on the Slash Series page to read in between wrapping things.

My thoughts and sympathies go out to anyone who has family or friends affected by yesterday's latest bit of senseless insanity in the States. To everyone else, let this serve as a reminder to focus your attention on the things that really matter. Life makes no guarantees. Don't take the people or things that are important to you for granted because in the blink of an eye it could all be gone. Yes, it's cliche and done to death but it's also true.
To those of you hoping for and eagerly anticipating (or dreading and fearing) the great 12/21/2012 I hope you at least get a kickass party out of it. =) Have your own little zombie apocalypse celebration and enjoy the moment. We'll get together and coordinate our stories for the great and terrible end to the planet when the hangovers have subsided. After all, we can't all be telling future generations a different story about how we beat back the darkness and rescued the world or they'll never believe it.

Happy Saturday and Happy Hanukkah!
Brace yourselves, kids. This begins the official countdown to the conclusion of Former Self. Chapter 40 is available on the Slash Series page. The series ends with Chapter 44 so the final chapter is scheduled to be posted the first weekend of 2013. I've loved following the boys through this particular reality and I hope you've enjoyed reading it as much as I've enjoyed writing it.
I have NO idea what comes after this but I've found that's pretty much standard at the end of a series. I'm fortunate to have VERY chatty muses so we'll have to wait and see what they churn out next.

I have no idea how it's November already, but here we are. Yesterday's announcement that the NHL owners have cancelled January's Winter Classic exhibition game, following on the heels of rescinding their last negotiated offer to the NHLPA makes it likely to be a long winter. *SIGH, grumble, mutter*
For those in the States, enjoy your extra hour of sleep tomorrow when you set the clocks back. For everyone else, Happy November! There is a new chapter of Former Self available on the Slash Series page.
Also, I have had a question or two about the Covert Ops series. I was hoping to be able to tie up all the loose ends in a nice, neat final chapter but half way through it realized there's way too much to tie up in that number of pages. It's going to take at least 4 or 5 more to bring everything to some sort of reasonable conclusion. At the moment, I'm editing my first novel and 5 or 6 chapters from finishing the second with the skeleton for a third already laid out. In other words, as long as the novels keep coming Covert Ops will be on a back burner waiting its turn. I have no idea when or if I'll get back to it to finish so for the foreseable future it will remain right where it is. Sorry, guys!

Welcome to the first day of an extended hiatus for the NHL. *sigh* Thankfully, Bettman's tantrum doesn't really end hockey. For every other league, peewee to professional, the season goes on. The NHL doesn't own the sport, they just like to think they do. So feel free to take the opportunity to support the other teams. After all, hockey is hockey. Any rink, any place, any time, drop the puck and let's go!

Hi guys! A new chapter of Former Self is available on the Slash Series page.
You will notice that the Lair now has a new icon! The furry kitty photo I pulled off of Google images has been replaced by a cartoon drawn by my wonderful and incredibly talented friend Pat/Kat Xander.
A friendly word of warning: It was brought to my attention a couple of weeks ago that pulling images off the web is a violation of copyright laws...despite being a common practice. I know, right?! I had no idea. So I am replacing the photos on all the pages on this site one at a time with public domain pics or things I have permission to use...with the exception of the MGM publicity shots and screen caps of the boys.
For any of you who post pictures on a personal site, Tumblr, or LJ be aware that if you are doing so without the express permission of the person that holds the rights to them you can be sued. A professional romance author I'm acquainted with on Twitter had that very thing happen to her because of random pictures on her blog and it cost her several hundred dollars in fines and legal fees. So beware.
Posting a disclaimer at the bottom of the page does NOT shelter you from legal action if you don't have the rights to what you are posting or actual permission to use it. That holds true for any creative work that has been copyrighted...pictures, drawings, stories, etc. The disclaimer only serves as proof that you know you're using something you don't have the right to use. Basically, it's a public admission of guilt. So that lovely little disclaimer at the bottom of pages like mine is useless against legal action. It will do nothing to protect you. Even if all you do is use someone's work as a spring board and manipulate it (manips) into something else, you are still at legal risk if the owner of the work isn't the type who likes to share.
To be honest, from a purely legal standpoint, fanfiction itself is a violation of copyright laws because none of us have MGM's permission to use their characters or the stargate in our stories, but they're nice and they let us get away with it anyway. =) Hundreds of sites filled with thousands of stories gives IMPLIED permission, but that's not the same thing as having their official ok to use it.
And for those of you thinking you can just claim ignorance if you're ever busted by someone...yeah, that won't necessarily work. The author I mentioned took down the pics on her blog the same day she was contacted by the photographer that owned them. She admitted she wasn't aware it was illegal when she'd pulled them off Google images and issued a formal apology, but that person was still within their rights to sue her and they did despite the apology. So if the owner of the work you posted decides to be a hardass about it they can be and there's nothing you can do to stop them...except not use their work in the first place.
I'm not saying it's not done every day by people all over the internet. I'm just saying it's not legal and if you tangle with the wrong person it's also stressful and expensive!
Now you know. What you do with the advice is totally up to you. =)

This weekend marks the 15th Anniversary of the Stargate SG1 series. Hugs and overwhelming thanks to the writers, producers, cast, and crew that made this show so memorable. Its legacy lives on through those of us who have stolen your characters and are holding them hostage. There will be no ransom because we don't intend to turn them loose anytime soon. Not to worry, we will keep them happy and well fed. =)
I'm posting this a day early because I will be at a writers' conference this weekend learning how to craft bigger and better stories. After all, practice doesn't make you better if you practice doing it wrong, right? Right. Have a good week!
